Our Mushrooms

Why you should give a Shiitake where your mushrooms come from…

Our focus is always on quality ingredients, grown in the perfect environment, extracted for maximum potency and subjected to a rigorous testing process. No fillers, no nasties, just 100% mushroom goodness. That’s why you should give a shiitake.

What makes LOAM different?

  • We grow our mushrooms in an originally-certified forest and regions of Global Signifigance for biodiversity

Our mushrooms thrive in Finland, a country recognized by UNESCO for having the cleanest waters and purest air in the world, making it an ideal location for cultivating high-quality mushrooms. We carefully select our fungi strains to ensure they produce the highest concentrations of beneficial compounds. Our Cordyceps come from an agroforestry system in the northern mountain area of the Qingyuan Country, who have been perfecting their craft for 20 years. Production is done at a FSSC22000 third party audited state-of-the-art GMP production facility to ensure that the highest quality standards are met in terms of production. Extensive lab testing is done in Canada and the US on every batch to ensure safety. Basically, our mushrooms are living their best life, so you can too.

  • We use the most potent part of the mushroom

The mushrooms grow in carefully regulated growing conditions and produce the most vital mushroom ‘fruiting bodies’. The fruiting body is the most potent part of the mushroom, rich in the compounds of interest, which is why we ONLY use mushroom fruiting bodies in our powders. We’re good like that.

  • We optimize the extraction process for optimal benefits

So, here’s the thing. Unlike cellulose found in plants, humans lack the enzymes necessary to break down chitin (a tough, fibrous substance that makes up the structural component of fungal cells) which makes it difficult for our bodies to digest mushrooms and absorb their beneficial compounds effectively.

That’s why it’s so important to extract compounds from mushrooms, rather than simply eating them. We produce the most potent and pure dual-extracted mushroom extracts for your dosing pleasure. You’re welcome.

  • We undergo third-party testing

We get that it’s important to not mark your own work, which is why we subject ourselves to a rigorous testing process. All samples are sent to third-party laboratories to measure bioactive compound levels and undergo microbiological and heavy metal testing. We single batch test which means the product you have received has its own certificate of approval and has been checked it passes our standards. We mean it when we say we know mushrooms. We’ve done the work… & created the tote bag.

LOAM. More than just mushrooms.

CORDYCEPS

Cordyceps militaris

More Than... Energy & Stamina

Calling all fitness enthusiasts - and anyone tackling the challenges of modern life—cordyceps is here to provide powerful support for healthy physical performance. This incredible mushroom contains nutrient compounds like modified nucleosides, β-glucan polysaccharides, and cyclosporine-like metabolites. But the real standout is cordycepin, a compound known for boosting energy levels and improving oxygen utilization during exercise. It’s also been shown to enhance endurance and support faster recovery, making cordyceps a go-to for anyone looking to push their physical limits or simply stay energized throughout the day!

Going for gold

Cordyceps mushrooms gained
worldwide attention when they were linked to the success of the Chinese Olympic in the 1993 World Championships. The Chinese athletes credited their impressive performances to their use of cordyceps, sparking a surge of interest and leading many to explore its benefits for athletic performance and overall vitality. Today, Cordyceps continues to be celebrated not only for its unique properties but also for its starring role in sports history.

Energy & Stamina

Cordyceps are mainly used for its energy-enhancing effects carried out by beta-d-glucans which improve oxygen delivery to all parts of the body. This enhances stamina and aerobic capacity (VO2 max). Traditionally, Cordyceps has been used to support respiratory health and lung function. Cordyceps are thought to increase the body's production of the molecule adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is essential for delivering energy to the muscles. This may improve the way your body uses oxygen, especially during exercise.

Improved Sports Performance

Non-professional athletes use Cordyceps for its perceived benefits in enhancing stamina and athletic performance. This mushroom may support improved energy production at the cellular level, potentially boosting endurance and reducing fatigue.

Adaptogenic Properties

Cordyceps is believed to have adaptogenic qualities, helping the body adapt to stress and promoting overall resilience.

Supports Heart Heath

Cordyceps may benefit heart health by helping prevent arrhythmias and lowering levels of triglycerides and “bad” LDL cholesterol. Cordyceps are approved in China for the treatment of arrhythmia.

The polysaccharides in Chaga mushrooms continue to surprise scientists with their benefits. Chaga is an adaptogen; it has the capacity to support allostasis in the entire body, potentially including your energy levels and muscle endurance, as shown in animal studies.

LION'S MANE

Hericium erinaceus

More than... Focus & Memory

Lion’s Mane has a rep for being known as brain food. The big dog on campus. The OG of all mushrooms, which you know, we fully understand, but they’re also SO much more than that. Offering strong support for a healthy brain function, we’re big fans of anything that stretches our intellect and keeps us focused day to day. Lion’s Mane is also rich in hericenones, compounds known for promoting nerve growth and cognitive health too.

And that’s not all. Lion’s Mane contains beneficial compounds, such as β-glucan polysaccharides and various antioxidant terpenoids, primarily diterpenoids, to aid in gut health.

Mush-room for thought

Lion’s Mane mushrooms contain
compounds called hericenones and erinacines (in the mycelium) which are believed to stimulate the growth of brain cells by promoting the production of nerve growth factor (NGF). This has led researchers to study Lion’s Mane for its potential benefits in improving memory, focus, and even protecting against neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's

The mushroom is rich in antioxidants, which may help combat oxidative stress.

SHIITAKE

Shiitake Lentinus edodes

More than... Immunity & skin brightening

Packed to the brim with health benefits, we think it’s VERY important to give a shiitake about this particular mushroom.

More than just their rich umami flavor (try it in a savory cocktail and thank us later) shitake mushrooms contain key compounds like Eritadenine, which helps to support heart health and Antioxidants, known for protecting cells from damage, reducing inflammation and giving your immune system a welcome boost.

And while all that goodness goes to work on the inside, outside the Kojic Acid, known for its skin beautifying benefits will help to lighten skin by inhibiting melanin production.

The secret of shiitake

Shiitake mushrooms have been around for over 1,000 years and were once considered a secret weapon for Samurai warriors. Back in the day, Samurai would include shiitakes in their diet, believing these mushrooms boosted energy and strength.

The Beauty of Shiitake

Rich in Antioxidants

Shiitake mushrooms are a fantastic source of antioxidants like selenium and vitamin E, which help protect the skin against environmental damage and premature aging. These antioxidants combat free radicals, reducing inflammation and promoting a youthful, radiant complexion.

Boosts Collagen Production

One of the standout benefits of Shiitake mushrooms for skin is their high content of vitamin D and other compounds that stimulate collagen production. Collagen is vital for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Natural Anti-Inflammatory Properties

The presence of compounds such as polysaccharides in Shiitake mushrooms helps reduce skin inflammation and may alleviate conditions like acne, eczema, and rosacea. These natural anti-inflammatory properties make Shiitake mushrooms an excellent choice for sensitive and reactive skin types.

Shiitake mushrooms may enhance the skin’s barrier function, helping to retain moisture

and improve hydration. This is particularly beneficial for those with dry or mature skin, as it helps to maintain a balanced and dewy complexion.

Promotes Hair Growth

Rich in zinc, iron, and other essential minerals, Shiitake mushrooms may help promote

hair growth and prevent hair loss. These nutrients support the hair follicles, encouraging

stronger and healthier hair growth.

MAITAKE

Maitake Grifola frondosa

More than... Weight & Blood Sugar Management

Rich in compounds that support
various aspects of health, these are something of an MVP in the mushroom world. Known for their ability to help regulate blood sugar levels, Maitake contains β-glucans that can improve insulin sensitivity, making them beneficial for managing blood sugar.

They are also great for boosting your metabolism and promoting a feeling of fullness, helping to control appetite naturally and assist with weight management long-term.

For women suffering with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Maitake mushrooms could also help manage some of the symptoms, due to their positive effects on insulin sensitivity and
hormonal balance. (1).

The tale of the dancing mushroom

Their name actually means "dancing mushroom" in Japanese! Legend has it that people would literally dance with joy when they found them growing in the wild, not just because they’re delicious but also due to their prized medicinal properties.

The Beauty of Maitake

The Maitake mushroom has traditionally been used in Asia for health promotion and longevity.

Weight Control

Studies suggest that Maitake mushrooms enhance energy expenditure by increasing the activity of brown adipose tissue, which helps burn calories to generate heat. By boosting energy expenditure, Maitake mushrooms have the potential to aid in burning more calories and supporting weight loss efforts. Maitake mushrooms contain compounds called alpha-glucosidase inhibitors that can slow down the absorption of carbohydrates in the gut. This means that the body takes longer to break down complex carbohydrates into glucose, which can help prevent spikes in blood sugar levels after meals.

Female Benefits

While maitake would be a good addition to just about anyone’s diet, women may be particularly interested in its potential benefits. In one study, Maitake alone was able to induce ovulation in 76.9% of women with irregular ovulation (30). This effect may be due to maitake’s ability to support healthy blood sugar and insulin levels. Interestingly, when the researchers gave the women a combination of Maitake and standard drug therapy, they observed that 86% of the women ovulated. Larger studies are needed to confirm these findings. However, since many women of reproductive age struggle with infertility, some may find hope in these results.

Gut Health

Maitake, like other mushrooms, contains plenty of prebiotic fiber. Its polysaccharides support microbial diversity in the intestines, enabling the growth of beneficial bacteria and promoting a healthy gut flora.
